North Branch resident appointed to the Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine

SAINT PAUL – Governor Tim Pawlenty announced the appointment of Barbara Fischley, D.V.M., and the reappointment of Joanne Schulman, D.V.M. to the Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine. Both are appointed to four-year terms that expire on Jan. 6, 2014.

Fischley, of North Branch, has been a small animal practice veterinarian in Minnesota since 1990, most recently as the sole owner and practitioner with the Kelley Animal Hospital in Circle Pines. She earned her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, and holds a certification from the University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program. Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Fischley held positions in pharmaceutical sales, as a research coordinator with the Regional Kidney Disease Program in Minneapolis, and a biological technician with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in Bloomington. She earned her bachelor of science degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is a member of the American, Minnesota, and Humane Society Veterinary Medical Associations (VMA), served on the Minnesota VMA Ethics and Grievance Committee, and volunteers with the U of M veterinary student mentorship program. Fischley replaces Dr. Michael Murphy as a veterinarian member of the Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine.

The Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine is responsible for licensing and disciplining veterinarians. The board consists of seven members appointed by the Governor.
